Parks & Recreation

As LEED-certified professionals, we are dedicated to preserving and enjoying the environment. Ackerman Engineering, Inc. has worked with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Department and others on a variety of outdoor recreation projects, including:

  • Chatfield State Park | Denver, CO
In collaboration with Sellards & Grigg, Inc., we added 50-ampere electrical RV connection pedestals to 143 existing and 44 new campsites. We analyzed the existing 13.8kilo-volt primary electrical distribution system and designed new secondary switchgear and distribution system to feed the 50-ampere pedestals and provide NEC required 240-volt power. The electrical system was an addition to the existing campground and had to be coordinated with the existing electrical, water, and sewer systems.

  • Thornton Sports Complex/Trailwinds Park | Thornton, CO
We worked with EDAW, Inc. to prepare electrical construction documents associated with the field sports complex’s new lighting systems. We coordinated with Xcel Energy to provide two separate primary underground electrical services, two separate padmount transformers, and two new secondary electrical services. We also provided lighting design and the supporting electrical distribution for the shelters, parking areas and walkways, restrooms and storage buildings, maintenance yard, and multi-purpose field area in compliance with IES guidelines. In addition, our electrical design included power pedestals for concessions vendors and system pump power.

  • Horsetooth Swim Beach | Larimer County, CO
We coordinated new electrical service with the local utility company and designed the secondary electrical service and distribution for the Horsetooth facility. Our design elements included exterior lighting and interior power and lighting for a new restroom building, pump and control power for the sewage lift station, power connections for food warming/cooling equipment in the outdoor warming kitchen, and three pole-mounted luminaires in the parking lot. We also provided general use lighting, portable special/decorative lighting connections, power connections for portable music/sound systems, and receptacles at each column in the area’s shelter.

  • Sloan’s Lake Marina | Denver, CO
Our responsibilities included coordination of a new electrical service, lighting and power for a new pump building, distribution and branch circuit power for new irrigation pumps (4-100hp pumps) and related controllers. We also coordinated the lighting and power associated with the restroom facility remodel and pedestrian lighting for the north shore, promenade, and jetty.

  • Ford Park | Vail, CO
Working with Logan Simpson Design, Inc., we coordinated with Holy Cross Energy for two electrical points of service with multiple customer meters at each location. We provided new electrical service entrance feeders for the tennis center, water feature pump station, new concessions center, and new and existing restrooms and site walkway lighting. We also provided new project luminaire selections consisting of LED pedestrian pole lights with wireless dimming control. The lighting design included comprehensive computer-generated illumination level photometric analysis.
